National Search for SVP Academic Affairs & Provost

I am pleased to announce that we have launched a national search for our next Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost. This is an expanded and reimagined role that will provide leadership for our academic initiatives, research enterprise, and student affairs and enrollment efforts. A role of this scope and magnitude will require a visionary and highly collaborative leader committed to making the University of Arizona a destination for the world’s best thinkers and the nation’s top students.

Please join me in congratulating Tony Proudfoot who has accepted a position as Vice President for Marketing and Strategic Communication at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There, he will be responsible for repositioning the university to compete at a national level. He graciously has agreed to stay at the UA through June 22.

Monday, I joined the graduates of the College of Medicine – Phoenix for my first Commencement ceremony as UA president, and this Friday, nearly 4,500 students will come to Arizona Stadium to receive their degrees in front of almost 43,000 friends and family.

Michael D. Dake Appointed Senior VP for Health Sciences

Currently a professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford University, Dake made medical history in 1992 with the implantation of the world's first thoracic stent-graft at Stanford.
