I am looking forward to the start of the Spring 2023 semester on Wednesday. As we make final preparations, and in response to the recent spread nationwide of the highly transmissible Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5, I want to reiterate important COVID-19 mitigation practices that can help keep our community safe and healthy. 

I have formed a Presidential Advisory Commission on the Future of Agriculture and Food Production in a Drying Climate to provide recommendations on concrete steps the University of Arizona can take to make our state a global leader in creating and applying transformational technologies and climate-resilient sustainable agriculture and food production practices, in partnership with the desert agriculture industry.

The University of Arizona is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of our graduate student Jetal Agnihotri.

We are planning changes in face covering guidance for the University’s locations in Pima County (including main campus) that will become effective next Monday. 

I am pleased to submit the University of Arizona’s tuition and mandatory fees proposal for the 2022-2023 academic year. 

The CDC issued new masking guidance across the country on Friday. Today the COVID-19 transmission level in Pima County remains high, although levels are waning in the rest of the state, and I am hopeful we will see the same in southern Arizona. Considering the high transmission levels, we are keeping our face covering protocols in place across campus. When we return to campus after Spring Break on March 14, we will determine whether to make changes to our protocols.
